The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 60 people at a yahoo boys award night in Ogun state. The internet fraudsters were nabbed by the commission during an awards ceremony at the Conference Hotel in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The EFCC said an investigation revealed that the event tagged ‘Peer Youths Awards,’ was organized to reward high-level internet fraudsters. The commission shared the news across its social media platform and noted that the suspects will soon be charged to court. Items recovered from them include cars, electronic devices, laptop computers, and mobile phones. The federal government on Monday insisted Nigeria is yet to record a case of the Omicron variant of the COVID-19, despite Canadian authorities’ claims that two passengers from Nigeria had tested positive. Speaking at the Presidential Steering Committee briefing in Abuja, Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Ifedayo Adetifa, said there was no need to give in to speculations. “I do not encourage citizens to waste energy on speculating,” he said. “I think what we need to do is to focus on what we actually know.
